Terrace KUKKA
On the entrance street of the famous tourist spot Samcheong-dong in Seoul, the neon signboard of the Korean word "꽃" (flower) illuminates an old building's second floor. Unlike flower shops usually found on the ground level, Terrace Kukka is a multifaceted cultural space where various programs take place through the medium of flowers. Here, one can not only purchase flowers but also attend flower arranging classes, alongside a restaurant offering fine dining amidst beautiful floral arrangements.
With flowers, diverse in form and color, as the centerpiece, the space aims to convey a clear and simple message while creating a natural environment using minimal finishing materials. The metal wave panels on the ceiling evoke the undulating patterns of the sky or the sea, while the floor and walls symbolize earth, utilizing a special texturing technique that enables one to feel the rough and raw texture of soil. The ceiling's wave panel captures natural light from the windows and the movement of vehicles, transforming the space into various moods over time.
Moreover, unlike traditional flower shops, the flowers here are presented abstractly, at times resembling installation art pieces, occasionally creating an eerie yet captivating ambiance.
